In India, there is a popular belief that if a black cat crosses your path then it is unauspicious. However, in certain parts of the world, it is actually considered to be good luck. In Britain, Germany, Ireland and Japan coming across a black cat on your travel are lucky. Meanwhile, in India, it is believed to have a bad omen because, in India, black colour is generally associated with Lord Shani. In astrology, it is believed that Lord Shani might be trying to warn you to not go outside. or that the work will be delayed.
It is said that if a black cat crosses your path, then you should avoid taking that path. It is also believed that you should let somebody else pass before you do. In this way, you can keep bad luck at bay and the first person will have it on them.
In certain western countries, black cats are often a symbol of Halloween or witchcraft. In America, they are believed to bring misfortune. They are looked upon as a symbol of evil omens and are suspected of being from the family of witches, or considered shape-shifting witches themselves.
According to Greek mythology, Zeus’s wife Hera once transformed her servant, Galinthias, into a black cat as punishment for impeding the birth of Hercules. Galinthias went on to become an assistant to Hecate, the goddess of witchcraft, and ever since black cats are considered good or bad in different cultures.

In fact in some countries, it is considered bad if a black cat crosses your path, and good luck if a white cat crosses your path. In Scotland, there is a strange belief that if a black cat arrives at your home is believed to bring prosperity.
