Both sons of slain gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed were released from juvenile home in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj on Monday (October 9), officials said.

The duo had been sent to the juvenile home by the police after the murder of Umesh Pal, a prime witness in the BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case. Umesh Pal was killed in broad daylight in February this year outside his home.

Atiq Ahmed, who was gunned down by assailants on April 15 this year from a point blank range, was the prime accused in the case. Ashraf, Atiq's brother was also killed in the same incident.

After the sons were sent to juvenile home, an application was filed in the CJM court on behalf of Atiq’s wife Shaista requesting the police to bring her children to the fore.

The CJM court had sought a report from the Dhoomanganj Police which told the court that after Umesh Pal’s murder, Atiq’s family had absconded. Both children would found abandoned in Chakia, hence keeping in mind their safety, both sons were admitted to the juvenile home.

Police release the duo

Both sons of Atiq were admitted to the juvenile home at Rajrooppur in Prayagraj. Ehjam Ahmed, one of the two sons, turned adult on October 4 this year while the other one is still a minor.

Today, both of them were released and handed over to Atiq's sister Shaheen Parveen. The government has also provided security to both of them.

Notably, Shaheen had filed an application for Atiq's sons. A case of extortion is already registered against her and her husband was arrested and sent to jail.

Ehjam’s name appeared in Umesh Pal murder case

Ehjam Ahmed's name also came up in the Umesh Pal murder case. Atiq's lawyer Khan Saulat Hanif himself had admitted this in his statement. Prayagraj Police had also included Ehjam's name in the case diary.

Asad, another son of Atiq, along with his aide Ghulam in the Umesh Pal murder case were killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force on April 13 in Jhansi.
