Varanasi: Mesmeriing Dev Deepawali celebration with lakhs of diyas | PICS

On Kartik Purnima, the last day of the auspicious Hindu month of Kartik, Hindus celebrate Dev Deepawali. This year, Ganga ghats were specially decked up with lakhs of diyas and mesmerizing lights to make the event larger than life.

Dev Deepawali festival was celebrated across the country with great zeal and zest on Monday. On the occasion of the festival, the holy city Varanasi wore a magnificent look illuminated by lakhs of earthen lamps (diyas).

The ghats of Varanasi were specially adorned with the lights and diyas. The riverfront ghats of the Ganga were illuminated with over 10 lakhs diyas to honour the river and its presiding goddess.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who welcomed a host of guests, including ambassadors and high commissioners, from 70 countries to watch the celestial Dev Deepawali celebrations in Varanasi, led the celebrations organised along the Ganga ghats.

 "'Dev Deepawali' is part of this place's legacy for past 100 years but because of PM Modi, 'Dev Deepawali' has become a spiritual event not just of Kashi or India but of the world," said CM Yogi.

On attending Dev Deepawali' in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, Herve Delphin, Ambassador of the European Union said he witnessed this incredible sound and lights show between modernity and tradition.

It is an experience like no other. We really enjoyed it, he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted people on the occasion of Dev Deepavali, which is being celebrated on Kartik Purnima, the last day of the auspicious Hindu month of Kartik.
