Seoul, South Korea: Hong Myung-bo has picked Arsenal striker Park Chu-young among nine Europe-based players selected for South Korea's 23-man World Cup squad.

The South Korea coach announced his lineup Thursday at Paju's National Football Center.

Park made the list despite having very little game time since joining the Gunners in August 2011. Other English Premier League players Ki Sung-yeung and Kim Bo-kyong were also selected.

As Hong promised, there were no surprises in the squad, although injury has ruled out Park Joo-ho, who plays for FC Mainz in Germany.

South Korea, a semifinalist when it co-hosted the tournament in 2002, is preparing for an eighth successive World Cup campaign and faces Russia, Algeria and Belgium in Group H.
