Commonwealth Games 2022, Highlights: Rewinding day 7 of the multi-nation event

India had a historical and eventful day 7 as they clinched one gold and one silver medal to take their medal count to 20. Repaying everybody's hopes Murali Sreesankar clinched the silverware by registering a jump of 8.08m in the men's long jump finals. Following Murali, it was Mohammad Anees Yahiya who finished in the 5th spot as he registered his best jump of 7.97m. Boxer Amit Panghal who also happens to be the silver medallist in the 2019 World Championships reached the semifinals in the men's 51kg category. As of now, India has seven assured medals as far as boxing is concerned.

ATHLETICS

BOXING

  • Assuring the Indian contingency of seven medals, boxers Amit Panghal (men's 51kg), Jasmine Lamboria (women's 60kg), and Sagar Ahlawat (men's +91kg) win quarter-final bouts and advance to the all-important semis

HOCKEY

  • The men's team defeat Wales 4-1 in a final group game, sealing the top spot in the group as they enter the semi-finals.

  • Manika Batra reaches women's singles round of 16
  • Batra along with G Sathiyan make it to the mixed doubles round of 16 along with Achanta Sharath Kamal and Sreeja Akula

IND vs WAL - Men's Hockey Match: India win 4-1

  • Well, India has done it. They are through to the semifinals. Great performance by the team. Wales tried and tried, but the Indian team, led by Harmanpreet, was just too good.
  • Wales finally scored a goal. With just five minutes remaining, has it come too late?
  • India in the lead. 3-0. Wales will have to play out of their skin to make a comeback. Looks unlikely.

The Indian contingent is on a roll at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. Currently placed seventh on the points table, India has 18 medals in the kitty, with five gold, six silver and seven bronze.
