Delhi Police urges court not to grant bail to Sushil Kumar

Delhi Police requested the court that Sushil Kumar has been absconding shouldn't be given bail and he has links with criminals and musclemen who can intimidate the witnesses, reports India Today.

With two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar absconding after the death of wrester Sagar Rana in Delhi, the Delhi Police has urged Rohini court to not to grant anticipatory bail to the star wrestler after he filed for the same earlier in the day, reported India Today.

The court has reserved its decision on granting an anticipatory bail plea to Tuesday evening. 

As per the report, police told the court that video evidence suggested that Sushil Kumar was present at during the brawl between Sushil's men and former international wrestler Sagar Rana, which ultimately led to his death. Delhi Police requested the court that Sushil Kumar has been absconding shouldn't be given bail as he has links with criminals and musclemen who can intimidate the witnesses.

A non-bailable warrant has been issued by a Delhi Court against the wrestler and others involved in the case of the murder of 23-year-old Sagar Rana at the Chhatrasal Stadium. On Monday, Delhi Police had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for Sushil and Rs 50,000 for co-accused Ajay. Just a day after the announcement, the wrestler has made the move looking to get anticipatory bail.

The non-bailable warrant was issued days after a lookout notice was issued against Sushil in the same case. The lookout notice was issued by Delhi Police on May 10, four days after the wrestler and his aides went untraceable.ses

Kumar's application for bail comes a day after Delhi Police announced a cash award of Rs one lakh for feedback and information on the celebrated wrestler who has been on the run since May 4 after his name was linked to the murder of wrestler Sagar Dhankar.

On May 15, the court issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Kumar.

Last week, the Delhi Police issued a look out notice for Kumar.

"A lookout notice has been issued for Kumar," Guriqbal Singh Sidhu, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West Delhi) had said.

Kumar, employed with the Indian Railways, is posted as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at Chhattrasal Stadium, where the brawl that led to the death of Dhankar allegedly took place.
