Syndey: England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and chose to bowl Friday in the Cricket World Cup Pool A match against Afghanistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The match is the first meeting between the teams in an official international.

England made two changes to the lineup which slumped to a 15-run loss to Bangladesh on Monday, eliminating the two-time finalists from quarterfinal contention.

Ravi Bopara makes his first appearance of the tournament in the place of Moeen Ali, and James Tredwell comes in for Chris Woakes.

Afghanistan, making its debut at the tournament, included Shafuqullah Shafaq and Nasir Jamal for Asghar Stanikzai and Usman Ghanifrom as the only changes from the team which lost to New Zealand by six wickets in Napier on Sunday.

The weather is overcast, with a chance of showers, and likely to offer assistance to England's swing bowlers early in the match.
