Sydney: Cricket Australia says all-rounder Shane Watson sprained his right ankle after stepping on a ball in training Saturday and will be replaced by top-order batsman Phil Hughes on the team's limited-overs tour of Zimbabwe.

Team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said Watson damaged an ankle ligament that ruled him out of the tour but he should be fit for the tests series against Pakistan in October.

Hughes was not included in the original 14-man squad chosen on Aug. 3 despite a double-century for Australia A a week earlier.

Australia plays Zimbabwe on Aug. 25 and 31, and South Africa on Aug. 27 and Sept. 2, with the top two teams meeting in a final at Harare on Sept. 6.
