Dunedin (New Zealand), Mar 6: Offspinner Graeme Swann will fly to the United States for surgery on his injured right elbow after being ruled out of England's three-test cricket series against New Zealand.

Swann was omitted from the England XI for the first test which started at the University Oval on Wednesday, conceding his place to Monty Panesar.

Captain Alastair Cook said Swann was to undergo scans after his elbow injury flared shortly before the match.

England management announced later Wednesday that Swann will take no further part in the New Zealand series and will fly to the U.S. for remedial surgery.

He will then undergo a period of rehabilitation, aimed at ensuring he will be fully fit for the Ashes series in England this year.

Swann's place in the England touring party will be taken by James Tredwell.
