Chittagong, Bangladesh: Bangladesh's Mahmudullah claimed two early wickets on Friday to leave Sri Lanka at 68-2 in its second innings on day four of the second test.

After Bangladesh was bowled out for 426 earlier in the session, Sri Lanka lost Kaushal Silva on 29 and Dimuth Karunaratne for 15.

Sri Lanka, which scored 587 in its first innings, led by 229 at lunch and will be considering a declaration late in the day or early Saturday to push for victory.

Kumar Sangakkara, who scored a triple century in the first innings, was not out on 17, with Mahela Jayawardene on 6.

Mahmudullah boasted figures of 2-8. He capitalized on Sri Lanka's rush for quick runs as he forced Karunaratne to cut a delivery which was quicker than anticipated, with Nasir Hossain taking a brilliant catch at first slip.

He got considerable turn from the pitch to trap Kaushal Silva lbw, with the batsman underestimating the spin and playing down the wrong line.

Earlier, Sri Lanka's Ajantha Mendis claimed career-best figures of 6-99 as the visitors quickly took the last two Bangladesh wickets.

Dilruwan Perera ended with 3-119.
