Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel on Wednesday annouced his retirement from all forms of cricket. He took to his official Twitter profile to announce his retirement.

The player appeared for India in 25 Tests, 38 ODIs and 2 T20Is, and was one of the mainstays in the senior team before the arrival of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Patel, in his retirement announcement, thanked the BCCI and wrote that he is "especially indebted to Dada" (Sourav Ganguly) for showing "immense faith" in him. Ganguly was his first international captain.

Parthiv Patel made his debut in international cricket in 2002 against England at Trent Bridge, and became the youngest wicketkeeper in Test cricket. After losing his place to MS Dhoni in the Indian team, Patel made a brief comeback to the longest format of the game in 2016, when he was called in as replacement for Wriddhiman Saha.

He last appeared for India in 2018 during a Test against South Africa in Johannesburg.

The 35-year-old former cricketer scored 736 runs in ODIs, which included four half-centuries. In Tests, he scored 934 runs with six half-centuries.

The wicketkeeper-batsman remains a stalwart in the domestic cricket, and famously led the Gujarat side to Ranji Trophy triumph in the 2016-17 season.

In the Indian Premier League, Parthiv Patel has featured for six franchises, most-recently appearing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. In the 2020 edition, however, he didn't play a single match throughout the tournament.

Patel has scored 2,848 runs in his IPL career in 139 matches.
