Islamabad: Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Irfan will likely miss the test series against Sri Lanka because of a hip fracture.

Pakistan Cricket Board director Intikhab Alam says doctors have advised the left-arm paceman to rest for at least six weeks.

Irfan fell over in his follow through during the second Twenty20 international against South Africa in Dubai and was ruled out for the limited-overs tour to South Africa.

Irfan was not named in the Twenty20 squad for the series against Sri Lanka. However, he was expected to be part of the squad for three test matches against Sri Lanka, starting in Dubai on Dec. 31.

The second test will be played in Abu Dhabi from Jan. 8, and Sharjah will host the final test from Jan. 16.
