Kochi, May 24: A 32-year-old man, impersonating as an official of Mumbai police, was apprehended as he tried to enter the house of paceman S Sreesanth at nearby Edapally to ‘interrogate' his parents in connection with their son's recent arrest for spot-fixing IPL matches, police said.

The man, Neelash Ramachandran Jagtap, alias Sachin, told security guards at the cricketer's house he was from Mumbai police and wanted to question the parents of Sreesanth.

However he told the parents from near the gate he was from BCCI and close to Union minister Sharad Pawar and could help their son. Suspecting his motives, they asked him to wait outside.

The guards, acting on instructions from police to inform them in case anyone wanted to meet the parents, did so, as also his parents.

Police rushed to the cricketer's residence yesterday and arrested Jagtap, following a complaint from the parents and registered a case against him on the charge of impersonation.

They said the Hindi-speaking man, who arrived here from Mumbai two days ago, had a Mumbai-Kanyakumari rail ticket with him.
