Brisbane, Australia: India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss Wednesday and elected to bat in the second cricket test against Australia.

Dhoni is returning after missing the 48-run loss in Adelaide last week due to injury, and is one of three changes in the India lineup. Offspinner Ravi Ashwin and Umesh Yadav were recalled at the expense of Karn Sharma and Mohammad Shami.

Australia captain Michael Clarke was sidelined for the remainder of the series after injuring his hamstring in the first test, leaving 25-year-old Steve Smith to take over as captain at the Gabba and bat at No. 4.

The Australians made two other changes, both in the bowling attack, with Josh Hazlewood earning a test debut to replace injured veteran Ryan Harris and Mitchell Starc replacing Peter Siddle.

India has never won a test at the Gabba, where Australia is undefeated since 1988.
