JAMMU: Home Minister Rajnath Singh will be part of the first batch of pilgrims to perform darshan of the holy cave shrine of Shri Amarnath on July 2.

The Home Minister will reach Srinagar on July 1, meet Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Deputy CM Dr Nirmal Singh, top Army officials, and then visit Amarnath cave the next day.

Rajnath Singh will become the first Home Minister of India to perform darshan of the holy Ice Lingam on the first day of Amarnath Yatra.

The 59-day-long annual Amarnath Yatra will begin on July 2. A heavy security cordon has thrown across the route leading to the cave.

Union Home Secretary L C Goyal met Governor N N Vohra, CM Sayeed and other officials on Monday to review the security arrangements.

Amarnath Yatra will conclude on August 29.

Teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF),  along with State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed on both tracks of yatra at Pahalgam and Baltal.

Quick Response teams of Army, para-military forces and state police have also been deployed at different places including two National Highways from Lakhanpur to Srinagar, base camps at Yatri Niwas, Jammu, Baltal and Nunwan and the two tracks.

The Amarnath Yatra will start from forward base camps of Baltal and Pahalgam on July 2 and conclude on August 29 coinciding with Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan. The yatra will begin tomorrow from Jammu base camp.
