New Delhi: In the wake of incidents of assault on people hailing from the Northeast, Home Minister Rajnath Singh today called up the Haryana Governor and Karnataka Chief Minister and asked them to ensure safety of people belonging to the region.

During his telephonic conversation, the Home Minister told Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki and Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to take necessary action against the people involved in such attacks and requested them to ensure that law and order is maintained under all circumstances.

Three youths from Manipur were assaulted in Bangalore on Tuesday night allegedly by some locals saying they have to speak Kannadaor else leave the state.

Another three youths from Nagaland were thrashed and injured allegedly by eight persons in Gurgaon on Wednesday night for refusing to have drinks with the attackers.

The Home Minister said the government was committed to providing security to all the citizens.

"In the last couple of days, some unpleasant incidents of attacks by the miscreants on the citizens from the Northeast India have been reported in Bengaluru and Gurgaon and it is a matter of concern," he said in a statement.

In Bengalore, three persons found to be involved in the incident have been arrested. Similarly, in Gurgaon three persons have been nabbed by the Haryana Police.

Both the state governments have issued directions to the police to deal with such miscreants strictly.

The Bangalore Police and Haryana Police have taken a number of security measures for ensuring the security of the people, including those hailing from the Northeast, the statement said.

The Home Ministry has also sent advisories to the state governments and Union Territories in this regard.
