Mamata appoints her astrologer to law university's general council

Kolkata, Jan 4: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's astrologer Nimai Banerjee has been appointed to the general council of West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), a state university set up by the



The website  nimaibanerjee.com also mentions him of having been awarded Global Excellence Award 2004  by Viswa Jyotish Vidyapeeth, and National Excellence Award 2006 on Holistic Science by Indian Institute of Medical Sciences, Mumbai.
 
The website also says, Banerjee was the chairman of the Board of Studies on astrology in Berhampur University, and a member of Board of Studies on astrology in Jagannath Sanskrit University, Puri.
 
The state law department forwarded the recommendation to NUJS, leaving the NUJS university authorities in a quandary.
 
Reacting to this, retired Justice  Bhagwati Prasad Banderjee said: "We used to hear during the Left Front rule, ration dealers being appointed as chairman of school committees. We expected 'pariborton' (change) after the new government took over. But that did not happen. I fear the reputation of this institution will be lowered by this immoral decision."
