Ishrat Jahan encounter: Vanzara said he got clearance from Modi, Amit Shah, says DSP

Ahmedabad, July 5: DSP  Crime Branch D H Goswami has told a magisrate that he heard  DIG crime branch D G Vanzara telling his junior officer G L Singhal that he had got permission from



According to the testimony, Goswami said, he accompanied G L Singhal to the Shahibaug office of the crime branch  on June 12, 2004, two days before the encounter where additional director general P P Pandey, D G Vanzara and IB officer Rajinder Kumar were already present.

Goswami told the magistrate that Rajinder Kumar asked Vanzara to talk to the chief minister about it.

According to Goswami, Vanzara said he would talk to the 'safed dadhi' (white beard) and 'kaali dadhi' (black beard)- code names for Modi and Shah.

Goswami told the magistrate that on June 14 at around noon, a few hours before the encounter, Vanzara handed over to them a written document which also mentioned the plan to kill Ishrat and the three others.

According to Goswami, when Singhal objected to the plan to kill Ishrat, Vanzara  said he had the approval of his political bosses.
