Union Minister Farooq Abdullah on Monday asked his party members to establish close contact with the people to restore peace in the valley. "Peace is the key to prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir. It is pertinent for the party members to establish close contact with the public to restore and maintain peace in the valley," Abdullah, who is also the president of ruling National Conference, said.
Addressing party leaders and workers at his Gupkar residence here, Abdullah also made a fervent appeal to the people to get united and strive to maintain peace. "It is our moral responsbility to maintain peace as violence leads to destruction and forces people into economic distress and starvation," he said.
Asking his party members to maintain discipline and work for strengthening of the party, he said "the need of the hour is to strengthen the party as its strength is necessary for our existence and supremacy of the party is essential." Several delegations met Abdullah at his residence and informed him about their problems, a party spokesman said.
He said Abdullah assured the delegates that their genuine problems would be taken to the notice of the state government. PTI
