Lucknow: The outcome of Delhi Assembly elections will not have an impact in Uttar Pradesh, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Ajit Singh said yesterday.

"Its effect will not be seen anywhere in Uttar Pradesh," he said to a question at a press conference as to whether the impact of the Delhi assembly elections will be seen in Uttar Pradesh where Assembly elections are due in 2017.

Singh said like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, new chief minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal has also sold dreams and only time will tell how and when they are fulfilled.

"Prime minister Narendra Modi had shown dreams to people before the elections but is unable to fulfil them...similarly Kejriwal has also made promises and it is to be seen how many of these he is able to fulfil," he said.

Stressing that elections are no longer contested as they were done earlier, he said people now want quick results.

"New voters have their own aspirations...how they are given shape is the challenge before the political parties ... the recent elections in Delhi prove that elections are not contested like they used to be in the past as people want quick results," he said.

The RLD chief said the thinking of people has changed as voters are more aware and political parties have to be answerable to them.

Asked to comment on the performance of UP government, he said, "There is no government worth its name in the state...it is a family fiefdom..."

On the land acquisition ordinance, he said the Centre has made changes in the basic law leaving farmers with no right over their land.

"Land for opening projects under PPP model like hotels, private institutes and companies will be taken from farmers and they will have no right over it," Singh said.
