New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today launched a scathing attack on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over his comments that a CBI official confided in him saying that the agency had been tasked with targeting opposition parties at the behest of the BJP-led government at the Centre.

“We urge the concerned person (Kejriwal) to name the alleged CBI official so that further process as per law can be initiated,” the CBI said, contesting the claims made by the Delhi CM.

“A CBI officer told me yesterday that CBI has been asked to target all opposition parties and finish those who do not fall in line,” Kejriwal tweeted on Friday.
Kejriwal also retweeted a post yesterday that quoted sources as saying that after the ruling BJP's Bihar election defeat, "(Narendra) Modi has been weakened so others also have to be weaker."

Denying the CM's claims outright, the central agency dubbed it an attempt to malign the CBI's name.

“This is a completely false, baseless and misleading statement and emphatically denied. It appears to be a part of a concerted attempt to malign India's premier investigating agency,” the CBI said today.

After the raid at the office of Delhi government's Principal Secretary Rajendra Kumar, Kejriwal had said that the officer was just an excuse and that he was the real target.

“CBI reiterates its commitment to its motto i.e. Industry, Impartiality and Integrity,” the CBI statement added.
