Bowled over by grace and dignity shown by Sidhu, says Jaitley

New Delhi: A day after BJP handed him his maiden Lok Sabha ticket from Amritsar, a seat held by Navjot Singh Sidhu, senior party leader Arun Jaitley today sought to placate the cricketer-turned-politician saying he

Jaitley said though he kept requesting Sidhu to contest from Amritsar or any other constituency including Kurukshetra and West Delhi, which was reiterated by BJP president Rajnath Singh, the cricketer-turned-politician was gracious as made it clear that he was not looking for any personal or political position or gains.

Talking about Amritsar, he said, it is “a city which I have loved” as it is also his grand parents home and has been regularly visiting the place for all important political campaigns.

“My personal affinity to the city is because I have been visiting it since my childhood,” he said, adding that his mother belonged to Amritsar as she was born and grew up there and his sister and wife were also born there.

Jaitley lauded Amritsar's better medical facilities and said he is fond of its good food.

“My ties with the city are strengthened because of my fondness for good food. The food in Amritsar is the most delightful one that you get anywhere,” he said, adding “I am looking forward for a long stay in the city.”
