In an interesting development ahead of upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, three Muslim MLAs of Congress switched over to BSP today.

Dilnawaz Khan, one of these Congress MLAs, is the nephew of senior UP minister Azam Khan.

The other two Congress MLAs who joined BSP today are Qazim Ali Khan and Dr Mohammad Muslim.

All the three MLAs were suspended by the Congress for cross voting in recently concluded Rajya Sabha elections.

These MLAs were inducted in the BSP in the presence of senior party leader Naseemuddin Siddiqui.

By inducting these three Muslim MLAs from Congress, BSP is trying to send a strong signal to the Muslim community ahead of Assembly elections.

The party is reportedly trying to experiment once again with its ‘Dalit-Brahmin’ vote bank formula. In addition to that, the party is also trying to wean away a considerable chunk of Muslim votes.

In addition to these three Congress MLAs, one MLA each from BJP and SP also joined the BSP today.
