The Patiala House Court today adjourned Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani’s fake degree case till October 1, the day on which it will pronounce its order on whether to summon her in this case or not.

A case was filed against Smriti Irani by a freelance writer Ahmed Khan last year for allegedly providing contradictory affidavits about her educational qualifications during different elections.

The complaint points out that in her affidavit for 2004 Lok Sabha elections,  Irani stated her educational qualification as B.A. from Delhi University (school of correspondence).

However, while filing affidavit for  her Rajya Sabha nomination papers from Gujarat in 2011, she said her highest educational qualification was B.com, Part 1 (correspondence course) from Delhi University.

Accepting Khan’s plea for hearing, the court had directed Election Commission and Delhi University officials to produce records of Smriti Irani’s qualifications.
