Shatrughan Sinha attends Mamata's big Kolkata rally, BJP hints at action against 'opportunist' leader

Labelling Sinha as an 'opportunist', BJP's national spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said the party will take 'cognisance' of presence of its MP at the rally held against the Modi government.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday took strong objection for party MP Shatrughan Sinha attending Mamata Banerjee's mega Opposition rally organised in Kolkata. Labelling Sinha as an 'opportunist', BJP's national spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said the party will take 'cognisance' of presence of its MP at the rally held against the Modi government.

" (Shatrughan) Sinha has been speaking against the party at various platforms. And it is always important for the BJP to act against such people and the party will take cognisance of it," Rudy said.

Taking a dig at the Patna Sahib MP, Rudy said some people are "intelligent in different ways". "They abide by the party's whip so that they don't lose their membership. At the same time, they are so opportunistic... and can be present at any conclave. The BJP will take cognisance of it," Rudy said.

Speaking at the rally, Sinha said," People ask me why do you speak against BJP when you are still in the party. I say if speaking truth is an act of rebellion then I am a rebel."

Shatrughan Sinha has been regularly speaking against the BJP's top leadership on various platforms which provoked Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi earlier this week, who suggested that the actor-turned-politician should quit the party.
