New Delhi: While the government of India is trying its best to control the ever growing population of the country, Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu wants rich people of his state to go for more kids.

Naidu expressed his grave concern over the declining population growth of Andhra Pradesh and held the elite sections of the society responsible for it.

He said that the elite section is happy with ‘one or none’ kid policy while the poor are opting for one or two children.

"The one or none norm, which gained popularity as a result of the state-sponsored family planning campaign for several years, has lost its relevance now. In turn, it has to make way for one or more children norm," Naidu was quoted as saying by The Times Of India.

Naidu said this on Friday while participating in a symposium on child nutrition held in Vijaywada.

Naidu also expressed his concern over the ageing population in the country and compared it with the similar problem in Japan and China.

He pointed out that the children are the ‘future assets’ of the country.

According to the latest census, the birth rate of Andhra Pradesh is pegged at 17.5 per cent while the overall population is growing at 1 per cent.
