Ram Nath Kovind to take oath as India's 14th President today

Chief Justice of India J S Kehar will administer the oath of office to the President-elect at 12.15pm

Ram Nath Kovind will take oath as the 14th President of India today. The 45-minute long swearing-in ceremony will take place at the historic Central Hall of Parliament. Ram Nath Kovind will be administered oath of office by Chief Justice of India J S Khehar. At 10.30am, President-elect Kovind will visit Rajghat to pay his respect to Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation. At 11.15am, Ram Nath Kovind will meet outgoing President Pranab Mukherjee in his study room at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. After that, both the President-elect and the outgoing President will arrive in the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhawan in a bulletproof limousine.In the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhawan, the bodyguards of the outgoing President will give him the guard of honour for the last time.

At 11.45am, both Ram Nath Kovind and Pranab Mukherjee will leave for the Parliament.

At 12.03pm, they will reach the Parliament and the swearing-in ceremony will start at 12.05pm.

Both the outgoing President and the President-elect will be seated next to each other. 

Chief Justice of India J S Kehar will administer the oath of office to the President-elect at 12.15pm after which Ram Nath Kovind and Pranab Mukherjee will exchange their seats.

The new President will be given a 21-gun salute after which Ram Nath Kovind will deliver his first speech as the President of India.

Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Union Ministers, Governors, Chief Ministers, Ambassadors and other diplomats, MPs and senior civil and military officers will be among those present on this occasion.

After the conclusion of the ceremony, the new President will leave for Rashtrapati Bhavan where an inter-services guard of honour will be given to him in its forecourt. 

 

After the swearing-in ceremony, Ram Nath Kovind will accompany Pranab Mukherjee to his new residence - 10 Rajaji Marg.
