Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that his office (PMO) is closely monitoring the flood situation in his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that his office (PMO) is closely monitoring the flood situation in his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi.

Expressing deep concern over flood situation in Varanasi, PM Modi said that he was in close touch with local authorities to provide assistance.

"Deeply concerned by the flood situation in Varanasi. PMO is closely monitoring the situation & is in touch with local authorities," he tweeted.

PM Modi also added that his office in Varanasi is working 24 hours a day to provide all assistance to the flood victims.

"NDRF teams are present at Varanasi for rescue & relief work. The MP office there is working round the clock to provide all assistance," he said in another tweet.

On Tuesday, the Ganga was flowing at 72.48 metre and rising at the rate of one centimetre per hour.

According to reports available, the river Varuna, a tributary of the Ganga, is also swelling which has further aggravated the flood situation.
 
In addition to 225 villages, the rising level of Ganga has affected 40 pockets in Varanasi.
