Delhi Police has filed a case against Uttarakhand BJP leader Harak Singh Rawat after a woman accused him of raping her at his south Delhi residence.

The woman, who hails from Assam, told Delhi Police that Rawat called her to his home in Green Park on Friday and raped her.

The 32-year-old, after the incident, approached the Safdarjung police station and registered a complaint against the BJP leader.

Reports say that the woman had filed a similar case against Rawat more than 15 years ago.

Earlier in February 2014, an FIR was registered against Rawat for allegedly molesting a woman in New Delhi.

Rawat was a Congress MLA who rebelled against the Harish Rawat government. He was expelled from the Uttarakhand Cabinet in March 2016 for his ‘unparliamentary conduct’ on the floor of the House. Later he joined the BJP.
