World Cup 2023: Virat Kohli's century lights up Pune as India beat Bangladesh by seven wickets

    After opting to bat first, Bangladesh got off to a brilliant start thanks to Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das who scored half-centuries. They added 93 runs for the opening wicket only to slip up for the middle-order later in the innings.

    India started poorly with the ball but their spinners - Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav - bowled well in tandem to strike at regular intervals for India. Bangladesh's run-rate dipped in the middle overs with India storming back into the contest.

    Mahmudullah, after coming out to bat at seven, provided the much-needed final flourish smashing 46 runs off 36 balls with three fours and as many sixes to his name. Thanks to his knock, Bangladesh managed to cross the 250-run mark posting 256 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their 50 overs.

    Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma began the chase on a high for India. They added 88 runs in less than 13 overs with Rohit scoring 48 runs off 40 balls while Gill scored a brilliant fifty before getting out. Gill got out after scoring 53 with five fours and two sixes to his name.

    Virat Kohli steered the chase after coming out to bat at number three. He got brilliant support from Gill, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul but Kohli was the one to boss the chase all along. He calculated well in the end to perfectly reach his 48th ODI hundred as India reached the target in the 42nd over of the innings.
