‘Biwi number 1’ actress, Karisma Kapoor turns 42!

  • Karisma Kapoor is an Indian actress who appears in Bollywood films. Part of the Kapoor family, she made her acting debut at the age of seventeen. One of the first to break the Kapoor stereotype, who dared to join the Hindi film industry as the Kapoors did not allow their women to work in B-town before that. Karisma not only entered showbiz but also made it big there. She’s one of the most successful Bollywood actresses of the 1990s, Karisma Kapoor turns a year older on 25th June.   • Born to actors Randhir and Babita Kapoor, Karisma is part of the famous Kapoor dynasty of Bollywood. Her nickname is Lolo which means sweet in Sindhi, her mom Babita's mother tongue.

  • Karisma made her Bollywood debut when she was just seventeen with the 1991 film 'Prem Qaidi'. The film which also starred Telegu actor Harish Kumar went on to do decent business at the box office.

  • Karisma starred opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the Yash Chopra hit 'Dil To Pagal Hai', a film that helped her bag the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award and the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role.

  • The actress starred opposite Salman in several films including the comedy film 'Andaz Apna Apna', 'Biwi No 1', 'Hum Saath Saath Hain', 'Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge' and 'Chal Mere Bhai'.

  • Govinda was Karisma's regular co-star during the early and mid 1990s. The actress went on to star in over a dozen film with the actor including 'Raja Babu', 'Khuddar', 'Dulaara' , 'Coolie No 1', 'Saajan Chale Sasural', 'Hero No 1' which proved to be box office hit.

  • Karisma starred opposite Aamir Khan for the first and only time in the 1996 hit 'Raja Hindustani', a film which further solidified her as an A-list Bollywood actress. She bagged her first Filmfare Best Actress Award that year.

  • In 2000, she won her second Filmfare Best Actress Award for her performance in Khalid Mohammed's 'Fiza' in which she essayed Hrithik Roshan's sister. Her performance in the film was highly acclaimed and several critics noted her for showing great emotional range and depth.

  • Karisma made her debut into the small screen in 2003 with the series 'Karishma - The Miracles of Destiny'. The actress essayed a dual role on the show.

  • Karisma was engaged to Abhishek Bachchan in October 2002 which occurred on the 60th birthday of Abhishek's father, Amitabh Bachchan. Four months later in February 2003, they split up breaking the engagement.

  • Karisma married industrialist Sanjay Kapoor in 2003 at the home of her grandfather the late Raj Kapoor, R.K Cottage. The couple's daughter Samaira was born on 11 March 2005. She then gave birth to their second child, son Kiaan Raj Kapoor on 12 March 2010. Karisma made headlines later over her alleged marital discord with hubby Sanjay and they got divorced on April 8th and Karisma got the custody of her kids.
