Small to silver screen: 5 Bollywood actors who started their journey with television

  • The lure of Bollywood knows no boundaries. The sparkling industry attracts many from around the world but sadly only a handful of dreams turn to reality. The actors whom we know today who now sit comfortably on a throne of stardom have had their share of struggle. Many of the established actors started their journey from the small screen and after years of hard work, got a chance to work in films. While the television industry in itself has boomed over the years, we bring to you a list of five actors who refused to remain constrained to the small screen and made it big in Bollywood:

  • Vidya Balan: Dirty Picture's actress Vidya Balan too started her acting career from television. She had worked in the comedy show Hum Panch in 1995. Her success story is much inspiring as she tried several times to be a part of Hindi cinema but unfortunately failed because of her body. But, looks like she was hell bent to fight the odds and has now went on to become one of the most sought after actresses of Hindi cinema.

  • Irrfan Khan: One of the most intense actors of Bollywood, Irrfan too has a history of working in small screens. He had worked in TV shows like Chanakya, Bharat Ek Khoj, Banegi Apni Baat and many more.

  • Shah Rukh Khan: Shah Rukh Khan who has a massive fan following around the globe started his career from small screen. King Khan’s journey began when he worked in two soaps Fauji and Circus. Shah Rukh's first character was as a commander in the serial Fauji. Fauji was a big hit show in the early times.

  • R. Madhavan: The beloved Maddy of Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein also began his successful career from television. Madhavan appeared in two soaps Banegi Apni Baat and Ghar Jamai before entering films. Before that he also did anchoring in many shows.

  • Aditya Roy Kapur: The handsome hunk of Bollywood, Aditya Roy Kapur started his career as a VJ on Channel [V].
