New York:  Monica Gill, a 24-year-old clinical affairs associate, has won the Miss India USA 2013 crown, an annual pageant where young Indian-American beauties compete for the grand Miss India Worldwide crown.  Massachusetts resident Monica Gill won the crown in the annual pageant at a glittering ceremony in New Jersey where young Indian-origin girls from across several states in the US compete.

Gill defeated several other contestants on Saturday and will now compete against other pageant winners in the international contest for the title of Miss India Worldwide.  She has been previously crowned Miss India New England 2013 at the pre-elimination round held on November 9.  Gill is a clinical affairs associate and has in the past worked with various social organisations in the New England area from where she contested.

Meanwhile, 15-year-old student Alycia Rehmatullah from Atlanta, Georgia won the Miss India Teen USA 2013 title.  In an interview with INDIA New England, Gill said she had grown up seeing Indian beauty pageant winners Aishwarya Rai and Sushmita Sen being crowned the Miss World and Miss Universe titles.

“These woman put Indian woman on the map. I was awed by the glamour, grace and beauty. I competed in my first pageant when I was a sophomore in High School, at age 15,” she said.
