Amazing: NY couple married for 60 years dies 36 hours apart holding hands

New Delhi: An elderly New York couple Floreen and Ed Hale have been inseparable for six decades and even death could not keep them apart.Husband Ed Hale fulfilled his promise to his beloved wife when they died just hours apart while holding hands in an upstate New York hospital earlier this month.Ed Hale was 83-year-old and his wife Floreen was 82 year old at the time of death.According to the reports it was 1952 that the couple first locked eyes at a county dance, a moment that they'd describe to their children as love at first sight.When Ed Hale asked his future wife's parents for her hand in marriage, she had just been in an awful car accident and a long journey to recovery was ahead. They said no, but he persisted, telling them, "I will care for her the rest of my life if I have to." Ed and Floreen Hale were married in 1953, and more than 60 years later, they both lay dying—in separate New York hospitals. Determined to be with the wife he'd pampered for decades, Ed convinced the hospitals to pull some strings, and he ended up in a bed right next to hers, so close they could hold hands. Floreen died on February 7, followed less than 36 hours later by Ed.The 83-year-old man was initially too weak to be transported by ambulance to be with his dying wife, but at the request of the family, the two hospitals worked together to reunite the spouses in their last days.Ed would be called a "saint" by friends and family who knew of the constant doting he did on his wife.The couple had a joint funeral last Thursday - the eve of Valentine's Day - at St Mary's Catholic Church in Batavia, where friends, family and medical staff gathered to celebrate Floreen and Ed's truly undying love.
