Kabul, Sep 17: Hundreds of Afghan demonstrators today protesting an anti-Islamic film made in the United States stoned a US military base near Kabul and set fire to two Afghan police vehicles shouting anti-America slogans.

The demonstrators gathered on Jalalabad Road, and set fire to tyres on the road while chanting "Death to America".

Gunmen among the protesters opened fire at Afghan police, who were ordered not to respond in order to avoid escalation of violence, the Kabul police chief said.

Shops remained closed as the protesters stoned the US and Nato military bases. Nearly 40 to 50 Afghan policemen suffered minor injuries.
