In a controversial statement, Pakistani Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif on Monday called Prime Minister Narendra Modi an “elected terrorist” who has the “blood of Muslims of Gujarat on his hands”. Asif said the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological parent of the ruling BJP, is a “terrorist party”.
Asif made the remarks during an interview to journalist Hamid Mir on Geo TV’s show Capital Talk where he was discussing External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's recent speech at the United Nations.
"Sushma Swaraj has accused us of exporting terrorism. (However) one terrorist (in India) is the country's prime minister himself. He (Modi) has the blood of Muslims murdered in Gujarat on his hands," Asif was quoted as saying by ANI.
India is being "ruled by a terrorist party - the RSS," Asif added.
Asif said that Muslims were being killed in India in the guise of cow protection. Muslims, Dalits and Christians were all “fair game” in the country, he said.
Asif said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had won elections in Uttar Pradesh with full majority primarily because of support from “communal upper-caste Hindus”.
The minister was responding to Swaraj's UNGA speech where she had described Pakistan as “the greatest exporter of havoc, death and inhumanity”.
