Yaganti, where idol of Nandi has been increasing in size

New Delhi: Yaganti is famous for the Sri Yaganti Uma Maheswara Swamy Temple. It was constructed by the first Vijayanagara Sangama King Harihara Bukka Rayalu in the 15th century.The temple is in Kurnool District in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.The devotees here believe that the Nandi idol in front of the temple is continuously increasing its size. It's heard from the locals that the idol was initially very smaller than its present size. They say that certain experimentation was carried on this idol and it was said that the type of rock out of which the idol is carved has that growing or enlarging nature associated with it. It's not just a belief but a fact that the Nandi idol facing Shiva has been growing in its size over the years. This has been confirmed by the Archeological Survey of India. Science explains this as a geological phenomena. Worshipers think it to be a miracle.As per Archaeological Survey of India the rock grows at the rate of 1 inch per 20 years (10 mm per 8 years). Devotees say that certain experimentation was carried out on this idol and it was said that the type of rock out of which the idol is carved has a growing or enlarging nature associated with it. It is said that people used to do Pradakshinas(Rounds) around it in the past. Already the temple staff has removed one pillar as the size of Nandi has increased. According to Potuluri Veera Brahmam, the Basavanna(stone nandi) of Yaganti will come alive and shout when kaliyuga ends.
