New Delhi: Breaking the elaborate security cordon outside Parliament premises, a group of UPSC aspirants today shouted slogans against the new examination pattern and courted arrest.
The UPSC aspirants, mostly from Jawaharlal Nehru University, suddenly gathered near Vijay Chowk foundation and outside Parliament Gate No 1, and shouted slogans against the government.
Some of the protesters jumped into the fountain, giving policemen in winter clothing a hard time.
Most of the protesters were roughed up by police and bundled inside a bus before being taken to Parliament Street police station.
Police in the area were caught by surprise when nearly 100-200 students, carrying placards and raising slogans, marched towards the main gate of Parliament.
As a security alert was sounded, the gate was closed and the main entry radial was blocked by a bullet proof vehicle. Armed CRPF men then took position and the police tried to disperse the crowd.
The students were demanding restoration of foreign languages taught in Indian universities in the list of subjects of UPSC Civil Services Exam.
They were also demanding to grant three additional attempts and age relaxation to the candidates who are caught in the transition of syllabus change of 2011 and 2013 among others.
