New Delhi: Ahead of the 2014 election, the UPA government is planning to launch a mobile phone scheme and free tablets to woo rural voters.

In its most ambitious rural connectivity program ever, the UPA government is planning to provide mobile phones to 25 million rural households.  

The beneficiaries will get the phone by paying a one- time connection fee of Rs 300. The balance amount will be borne by the government.

The govt is also planning to give 90 lakh tablets free of cost to government school students studying in class XI and XII.  

The mobile phone can be recharged for as little as Rs 30 and it gives 30 minutes talk time along with thirty free SMS and data download up to 30 Mbps for one month.

The tablet comes with free 75 minutes airtime, data usage till 500 MB and free 75 SMS for one month.
