New Delhi: Delhi recorded one death due to swine flu in a recent case reported in a hospital in Ghaziabad. This had been the first case of swine flu death in the National Capital Region so far.

A 51-year old lady who belonged to Ghaziabad's Model Town area was admitted to Columbia Hospital on being diagnosed for fever and cold. She faced breathings problems while fighting with cough and cold.

Later her situation turned critical and she was transferred to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Here she was found positive for H1N1 virus and died on Wednesday.

As per sources of Ganga Ram Hospital, she was in a critical state when she was brought to the hospital. Her lungs had stopped working altogether and she was kept in ICU at that time.

This was the second case of swine flu reported in the NCR. The medical agencies are on a high alert.

As a precautionary measure, the health department has provided Tamiflu medicine to anyone who was in contact with the woman, including the hospital staff and her family members.

It may be noted, that the H1N1 virus is already prevalent in Hyderabad and Kerala these days. This is the first death caused by it in Delhi-NCR region. However, in the past few years, many death cases had been reported due to this fatal virus which looks like mild cold, cough and fever in its initial phase.
