New Delhi, April 7: A record 14 lakh examinees are going to take the Joint Engineering Entrance Main exam across India, the first after the change of AIEEE format.
The offline exam took place in all major metros today, while the computer-based exam will take place on April 9, 22, 23 and 25.
Last year, 11.5 lakh candidates had taken the AIEEE test conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education, the last edition of AIEEE that was conducted.
Only the top 1.5 lakh candidates in the merit list among the 14 lakh examinees, will be eligible for the advanced exam, which is the gateway for admission to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), IIT BHU and Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad.
The exam on Sunday was conducted offline (pen and paper), while the computer-based exam introduced last year will be conducted on April 9, 22, 23 and 25.
The JEE (Main)-2013 (paper I of earlier AIEEE) will have one objective-type question paper. The three-hour paper will cover physics, chemsitry and mathematics.
The JEE(Main) this year is being held for admissions to BE/B.Tech courses at National Institutes of technology, Delhi technological University and other Central Government-funded technical institutions.
This year's JEE (Main) merit list will give 40 per cent weightage (suitably normalized) to Class 12 or other qualifying exam marks and 60 per cent to performance in the entrance exam.
