Bhubaneswar, Dec 16 : This farm house over a land of 2.86 acres that once belonged to an IAS Officer of Odisha Ramesh Chandra Behera is now a government nursery and horticulture training centre.

The property of the IAS Officer has been confiscated after cases against the IAS Officer of making disproportionate property through corrupt practices are established.
The farm house in Bhaliagada village of Rangeilunda Block is located in the outskirts of Berhampur city in Odisha.

The anti-corruption wing confiscated the farmhouse and some plots belonging to Behera, a 1979-batch IAS officer following the March 7, 2011 order of the Bhubaneswar special court.

However, it took over 21 years for the government to establish corruption and confiscate the properties.A case against Behera for amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income was lodged in the early 90s by the state vigilance. Behera retired in May 2010.

This is the second such case in line as the house of another retired IAS officer Sanjib Kumar Ray at Bhubaneswar had been converted into the homeopathic dispensary last month.

Even though belated, such actions by the government are appreciated in public for it bears a hope for minimizing corruption in the system of administration.
