New Delhi, May 18:  Liaqat Shah, described by Delhi Police as a Kashmiri miliant, was released from Tihar jail after the court granted him bail.

A special court of National Investigation Agency (NIA) in New Delhi granted bail to Liyaqat Shah, who was arrested for conspiring to carry out militant attacks in Delhi.  He was arrested by Delhi Police from UP-Nepal border on March 20.

Shah hails from Kupwara district in Kashmir and is believed to be associated with the Hizbul Mujahideen for the last 15 years.

He was arrested aboard a train, which was on its way to Delhi from Gorakhpur.

On being released, a delighted Shah was most eager to see his family members.

“It is a big thing for me to see them (his family members). I am returning after 17 years. So I want to see my children,” said Shah on his release from the Tihar Jail.

On March 28, the Home (interior) Ministry had issued a notification asking NIA to take over the case after his arrest had generated conflicting versions from Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The Jammu and Kashmir government had been saying that Shah was on his way back from Pakistan, after he chose to surrender and join the mainstream under the state government's rehabilitation policy.
