Kochi: The Kerala High Court today confirmed the death sentence on Govindachamy for brutally raping a woman and then pushing her from moving train. The girls's name was Soumya.
Govindachamy had pushed out Soumya of the Ernakulam-Shoranur passenger train on February 1, 2011, after attempting to rob her. He raped the seriously injured woman in the woods near the railway track at Vallathole Nagar. Soumya succumbed to injuries on February 6.
Soumya was an employee with a private firm in Kochi.According to the reports brutal rape was one of the reasons for the death of Soumya.
Earlier the death sentence was awarded by the Thrissur Fast Track Court here. The Kerala High Court bench comprising Justice T.R. Ramachadran Nair and Justice B. Kemal Pasha while upholding the sentence observed that it did not find any reason to interfere with the conclusions of the fast track court.
