Nido Tania death: Kejriwal tells NE students, Delhi police has become 'thoroughly corrupt'

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party chief and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal today addressed North-east students staging sit-in at Jantar Mantar and promised them speedy justice. He lambasted Delhi Police saying it has become 'thoroughly

The chief minister questioned why the FIR was lodged two days after his death, and that too, when Nido's friends put pressure. "Filing of FIR is a fundamental right of each citizen", he added.

"The fight for Nido is every Indian citizen's fight. It is not the fight of Northeast people alone. It is a fight for a human being", said Kejriwal.

Kejriwal promised three concrete steps to provide security to the Northeast students. One, he said, Justice Usha Mehra Committe's report would be implemented, Two, a chapter on Northeast states will be compulsorily added in the school books for Delhi students from next session onwards. Three, Northeast students will themselves form a committee to suggest measures, and Delhi government would notify this committee and implement its recommendations.

At the sit-in, Nido Tania's father's 3 demands were put forth: (1) capital punishment to those who bashed up Nido (2) suspension of guilty police officials (3) stringent anti-racial law.

Nido Tania's mother told how the policemen at Lajpat Nagar police station made Nido pay Rs 10,000 for having broken the glass of the shopkeeper, how a police official himself took Nido on his motorbike and took him to the shop, where he was later bashed up by the goons.

Kejriwal's meeting with Northeast students came close on the heels of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi meeting the students at Jantar Mantar on Monday night during their candlelight vigil.
