Know Khushwant Singh, a prolific writer who left a mark on readers

New Delhi: Khushwant Singh, one of the most renowned names of the literary world, passed away on 20th March, 2014 at the age of 99. The author died quietly at home at his leafy Sujan




He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1974 but returned the decoration in 1984 in protest against the storming of the Golden Temple in Amritsar by the Army.

In 2007, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award in India.

Singh was known to wake up at 4 AM each day and write his columns by hand. His works range from political commentary and contemporary satire to outstanding translations of Sikh religious texts and Urdu poetry.
