New Delhi: More than 110 volunteers of the Delhi government will visit the night shelters here and ensure they are in a proper condition to tackle the chilly winter, said , state government official Praveen Deshmukh said Monday.

The volunteers, well trained by the Delhi government, will visit all the 210 night shelters to ensure they have basic the amenities needed to survive the extremely cold nights.

"The volunteers will also check the living conditions and make sure if all the facilities are being provided to those staying in the shelters," he said.

"Availability of toilet facilities, blankets and water supply will be checked," he added.

"The volunteers will start visiting the shelters located in various parts of Delhi such as Sarai Kale Khan, Yamuna Vihar, Lodi Road Tuesday onwards," Deshmukh told IANS.

He also said the entire process of providing shelters to the homeless is being done in two phases.

"In the first phase, people living on pavements are being provided shelters while in the second phase, drug addicts will get a place to reside," he said.
