Jaipur, July 5 : The sleuths of Rajasthan police's Anti-Corruption bureau could not believe their eyes when they opened the bank lockers of Mahesh Chand Sharma, a man who started his career as a Grade 2 compounder on a monthly salary of Rs 20,000.
He had, hold your breath, Rs 200 crore in movable and immovable assets.
Sharma claims he earned these assets in the last nine years. These assets would have remained under cover had not the ACB sleuths caught him red-handed accepting Rs 5 lakh bribe this week.
While searching two of his bank lockers, documents relating to more than Rs 30 crore worth properties were seized. Inside the bank locker of State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur alone, Rs 16 lakh worth ornaments and property documents were found.
Sharma had Rs 30 lakhs deposits in 10 bank accounts. ACB has freezed these bank accounts.
When his locker at ICICI Bank was opened, documents for Rs 18 crore worth properties were seized. Sharma had bought these properties in the names of his close relatives. Most of his bank accounts were also in the name of his relatives.
