New Delhi: More than 2,000 people were killed by a powerful earthquake that struck Nepal on Saturday. The earthquake – which measured 7.8 on the Richter scale – wrecked houses, flattened homes, buildings and temples, and caused widespread damage across the region.

A report in the Times of India suggests that a team of doctors and paramedics from All India Institute of Medical Sciences and other government institutions will reach Katmandu on Sunday to provide emergency medical services in earthquake hit areas.

Following a detailed meeting with the cabinet secretary, the health ministry has put together a team of around 30 members which includes orthopaedicians, anaesthetists, male nurses as well as other specialists and paramedical staff.

Apart from doctors and paramedics, the health ministry will also send other emergency medical supplies including stretchers, water purifiers and essential medicines.
