Chandigarh: Haryana government has decided to introduce religious book Bhagvad Gita in schools curriculum from the next academic session from class five to XII.
State Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma announced the same on Monday while terming the Gita a ‘supreme source of knowledge'.
He said that a committee of educationists would decide on the inclusion of specific shlokas from the religious book in various standards.
“We are working on it to ensure that it is included from the next academic session," he said.
The move comes days after the state government included RSS ideologue Dinanath Batra in the committee that advises it on education.
Meanwhile, the Congress took the opportunity to question the BJP government's intention with party's state unit chief Ashok Tanwar saying ‘the Gita are universally but we doubt the BJP's intentions'.
“Congress would not allow saffronisation of state's education system,” he said.
Panjab University sociologist Manjeet Singh termed the move against the constitutional spirit saying, “If the majority would start taking such decisions, it would amount to fascism."
